Olive juice
Cordie : “Hey mama? Guess what? Knock, knock.”
Mama : “Who’s there?”
Cordie : “Olive!”
Mama : “Olive who?”
Cordie : “Olive you!”
Mama : “Awwwww, I love you too, buddy!”
Thank You, Father, for all the love and laughter you’ve blessed us with through each other and through the wonderful friends and family who choose to walk alongside us.
Cordie and I literally wouldn’t be here, much less laughing, thriving, and enjoying all the unbelievable opportunities, friendships, and new beginnings you continue to pour into our lives.
“Sorrow may come for the night, but joy comes in the morning…. I’m trading my sorrow. I’m trading my shame….I’m laying it down for the joy of the LORD.”
Sweet Charity
During a discussion of things we need to get for school, la princesa and I got into this conversation about her ”allowance”.
So appropriate since we heard a sermon on money and stewardship yesterday at church.
Back story : She doesn’t get an allowance. She does tasks and extra chores to earn money or I’ll buy her things as I see fit.
Princesa : “Mom, can I get an increase in my….what’s the ‘a’ word….”
Mama C : “You mean an allowance?”
Princesa : “Yes..”
Mama C: “You don’t get an allowance. You do things to earn money. Why?”
Princesa : “If I earn more money then can I give it to charity?”
While my heart is melting, I reply, “Of course!”
Girl, look at this body!
Mama Carrie to Cordie: “Stop being so cute!”
Cordie : Puts her hands up in exasperation and says, “I can’t!” Then motions down to herself and says, “Look at this cute body!”
Uhhhh, excuse me???
Cool out, mama
Mama Carrie : “Cordie! Come snuggle with me!”
She runs over for a drive-by snuggle. Oh, that will not do.
As tries to squirm away, I protest: “Wait! Don’t leave!”
She responds in all seriousness : “You know I live with you, right?”
Mama Carrie in all sadness : “You right.” So I let her go. For now.
Battle ready
Cordie is my second brain and is fantastic at helping me remember things. I asked her to write out a list of things we need to get.
She reminded me we needed batteries, so I asked her to write that down.
Cordie: “How do you spell batteries?”
Mama C: “B-a-t -t….”
Cordie: “Hey! If you add l - e, it spells battle!”
Does my heart good to know my warrior princess is battle ready…even during language arts time.
This joker
Cordie is apparently picking up my penchant for corny jokes. She came home with this tasty number.
Cords: “Mama! What is a map’s favorite flower?”
Mama C: “What?”
Cords: “A compass rose!”
Lovecat
Whilst listening to my random musical assortment, “Lovecats” by the Cure came on. Cordie then exclaims, “Hey! Is this the same guy who sings Friday (I’m in love)?”
The best part is that she started imitating his unmistakable voice while asking her question. Outstanding!
Mama Carrie amidst joyful laughter: “Yes, it is! That’s Robert Smith of the Cure. You know whose favorite band this is?”
Without hesitation, she replies: “My papa!”
Oh skins!
While we were watching the Redskins vs. Dolphins game, I informed her the Dolphins were winning at that time.
Upset her team was losing, she exclaims, “Oh no! It can’t be!”
Calm down, sister. There’s still time.
